Chandigarh: A day after he was moved out on the directions of Election Commission, Punjab Police inspector general (IG) and special investigations team (SIT) member Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh on Tuesday got support from various quarters.
If the political leaders across party lines, which included Punjab ministers Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, AAP convener Bhagwant Mann, leader of opposition Harpal SinghCheema and Punjab Ekta Party chief Sukhpal Khaira, have assailed the election commission move, Sarbat Khalsa appointed jathedar Dhian Singh Mand and constituents of Bargari Insaf Morcha have termed the transfer as an injustice with Sikh organisations waiting for justice of the acts of sacrilege, which is like rubbing salt to their unhealed wounds.
Except SAD-BJP, most of the political parties and Sikh organisations are standing by the senior cop. AAP and PEP leaders have termed the transfer as part of “behind the scene†understanding between SAD and Congress top leadership. Khaira wants the transfer to be challenge in the court. Now, the Punjab government has decided to approach the EC to reconsider the officer’s transfer order.
Mand along with United Akali Dal general secretary Gurdeep Singh, SAD (Amritsar) general secretary Gursewak Singh Jawaharke, who is Bargari Insaf Morcha supported candidate from Bathinda parliamentary constituency, on Tuesday served an ultimatum of one week to the poll panel to roll back its decision on the senior officer’s transfer and threatened stern but peaceful action by the various Sikh organisations. The nature of action will be decided after one week.
Before that, the organisations will go to Delhi on April 12 to handover memorandum to the CEC to withdraw transfer orders.
Meanwhile, activists of some Sikh organisations held a protest at Bargari on Tuesday against the transfer of the IG.
Amarinder Singh government had formed the SIT headed by ADGP Parbodh Kumar with others members including IG Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh to investigate matters of sacrilege and killing of two persons in police firing at village Behbal Kalan on October 14, 2015 apart from police action against protesters at Kotkapura on the same day.
