Chandigarh: A team of Organised Crime Control Unit (OCCU) of Punjab Police has arrested one Gagandeep Singh @ Gagan Judge who was wanted in a number of incidents of serious nature. Gagan Judge, an inter-state gangster, has been closely associated with Jaipal another absconding gangster. On a tip-off, a team of OCCU led by DSP Vibhor Kumar nabbed Gagan Judge from Sector 36 market of Chandigarh. He tried to fire upon the police party with his pistol; however, the police team successfully foiled his attempt and arrested the gangster.
The operation was conducted under the close supervision of Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, IG (OCCU). With the arrest of Gagan Judge, the OCCU team has solved the sensational incident of robbery of 30 kg gold from Ludhiana which took place around three weeks back. Gagan Judge was one of the five persons of this gang who was involved in this crime.
The DGP Punjab Dinkar Gupta said that Punjab Police is committed to eradicate the gangster menace from the soil of Punjab. He further added that remaining 4-5 gangsters are on the radar of Punjab Police and efforts are being made to arrest them. The DGP said that the Organised Crime Control Unit has been made fully equipped to handle such gangsters and gang-related crime.
The DGP praised the police team and said that Punjab Police is working in close coordination with the police of neighboring states especially with the tri-city where criminals often take advantage of boundaries of police functionaries.
IGP Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh added that around 31 lakh cash apart from one pistol, two magazines and 50 live cartridges have been recovered from the possession of Gagan Judge. He said that this gang used to call its members on wireless handsets to avoid interception of phone calls. Three number of W/T sets have also been recovered from the gangster. One car I-20 has also been recovered which was stolen by the gang sometimes back.
Gagan Judge and his gang members are involved in more than two dozen crimes of contract killing attempt to murder, extortion, auto snatching and other serious criminal activities. Raids are being conducted by the OCCU teams to nab other members of this gang and culprits involved in Ludhiana gold robbery case.
