CONTRADICTIONS, CAPACITIES, GUARANTEES OR GIMMICKS?

CONTRADICTIONS, CAPACITIES, GUARANTEES OR GIMMICKS?

The state of Punjab unfolded a new chapter in its contemporary political layout with the advent of AAM AADMI PARTY in the governmental roles. AAP has focused on bringing common masses at par with the leaders by making the citizens direct and first-hand beneficiaries. Punjab had sixteen chief ministers before Bhagwant Singh Mann, including the stalwarts like Pratap Singh Kairon, Giani Gurmukh Singh, and Gurnam Singh, who led the non-congress government in the state, subsequently there has been a regular scuffle for power between the Congress and Akali/BJP regimes. The trio has time to time, managed to be in control and change the aftermaths of the prevailing circumstances under the rule of the other, but one thing has been the constant that is the entry of no other party at that level with that sort of bandwidth. AAP, in this context, broke the shackles, emerging as the voice of change that the masses were looking for after being treated in an unwanted way by the previous regimes. The wear and tire of state machinery in social aspects which the previous governments caused was a significant reason why AAP was a reasonable alternative to the existing parties. There have been several factors for which AAP arose as an alternative by the people of Punjab; many issues were brought to the limelight during the previous campaigns also, such as the Sacrilege (Beadbi) issue, Drugs, Unemployment, and Education. AAP was swift enough in its actions this time around to capitalize on the unresolved matters and make them a stepping stone to seal the victory.
Three months into the government, AAP stands in the midst of turmoil as they lost the Sangrur Lok Sabha by-elections, which was their solitary seat in the lower house. The reasons were clear; the expectations were too much on the prevailing issues, plus the horrific killing of eminent artist Sidhu Moosewala in broad daylight made it evident that law and order in Punjab is a subject that is not being dealt with in the exact capacity and in the right way. The proximity of the AAP high command with the state leaders seems to have changed post-elections; the ones who were repeatedly referred to in the convener's speech as the prime players in the government were later seen to be left from the council of ministers as well. These contradictions point toward the exclusion of Former IPS Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh from the principal positions of the government, who, before elections, was manifested as an asset every political party desires to have on the merit of his exemplary services in the interest of Punjab. The former IG resigned last year because of the indifferent attitude of the then government in power and the nexus of the ruling class with the high-profile accused persons in the Sacrilege case. Following the series of events, Singh was inducted into AAP by the national convener and Delhi C.M Arvind Kejriwal himself and was made a prominent face of the party in the Majha region, where the party had no success in the 2017 elections. However, the introduction of Singh to the political space had a significant impact throughout the state of Punjab and not just on Majha. Despite these displayed characteristics at the outset, the tables have turned, and the AAP government seems to deny the abilities of their own manifested asset.
The politics behind these recently triggered contradictions have affected the smooth functioning of many concerned departments, whether it is about glamorizing the matters related to securities or managing the allocations for the "guarantees" that Arvind Kejriwal used as a stepping stone for his victory, the inexperience in the subjects about institutions is entirely reflected in the working style of the newly inducted ministers. The redresses are numerous as they were. The only thing which matters now is, were they all guarantees or gimmicks?
